Chai is traditionally a black tea brewed with milk and a mixture of spices. Each recipe can be different depending upon the spices used. Indian spiced chai is often referred to as Masala Chai. The word "chai" literally means "tea." Different languages use various forms of this word - for example Portuguese call it "cha," Hindus call it "chai," and in Chinese the sound of the symbol for tea sounds very much like "cha." “Masala” is the word for the mixture of the various spices - hence, Masala Chai.

Decaffinated Chai Tea

$ 8.00 USD

Our new Decaffeinated Chai has a more complex, traditional Masala flavor and is somewhat less peppery than the old version. Plus it is considerably less expensive. Decaffeinated black tea flavored with ginger root, cinnamon, green cardamom, ginger and vanilla flavor. Use one teaspoon per cut of fresh boiling water and steep for 3-5 minutes.

Our decaffeinated teas are naturally decaffeinated using a process that removes caffeine without using chemicals of any sort. The freshly plucked tea leaves are briefly soaked in water and gently flushed with carbon dioxide (CO2). The CO2 binds to the caffeine molecules and extracts them from the tea, leaving behind all the natural proteins that give tea its flavor. It also leaves many of the polyphenols and antioxidants intact, so it's still good for you.

Green Chai Tea

$ 7.00 USD

Our new blend of Green Chai (formerly Exotic Evening Green) tea is a delicate China green tea in the sencha style blended with cardamom, ginger, cloves, pepper, cinnamon, spearmint and flavoring. Lovely spiced tea with just a hint of mint makes a delicious winter-time treat. Use 1 heaping tsp. per cup and brew 2-3 minutes in steaming water.

Indian Mocha Chai Tea

$ 7.00 USD

Chai is so prevalent in India and Sri Lanka that it might as well be the national drink. It is very common to see tea carts or "chai wadis" serving their chai to passersby on the street. Chai blends are often made with lower quality teas since it is thought that the spices will cover up any deficiencies in the tea. The base that makes up a good chai, however, needs to be of good quality to produce a rich, bold cup and our Indian Mocha Chai tea uses a high-grown Ceylon black tea blend that does just that.

The blend offers a superb body with mellow Indian spice notes and a slight coffee overtone therefore making a great coffee alternative. It is bright and coppery and especially enticing when served the traditional way with milk and sugar! Contains black tea, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, curry leaves, lemongrass, cumin and sweet cumin, coriander, and natural flavors. Be sure to turn your container of chai upside-down a few times as the powdered spices can settle at the bottom of a bag during transit, or over time on a shelf. Use one teaspoon per cup and steep in freshly boiled water for 3-5 minutes.

Contains premium black tea, lemongrass, ginger, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, and black pepper. Be sure to turn your container of chai upside-down a few times as the powdered spices can settle at the bottom of a bag during transit, or over time on a shelf. Use one teaspoon per ounce and brew 3-5 minutes in freshly boiled water.

Night of the Iguana Chocolate Chai

$ 7.00 USD

If you like chai, you've got to try Night of the Iguana Chocolate Chai! Named after the last major box office success for Tennessee Williams, the distinguished American playwright - and a noted tea lover! The play features a captive iguana tied up to the edge of a veranda while a cast of characters discuss their complicated lives. As opposed to the plot of the play, however, Night of the Iguana Chocolate Chai tea is delightfully complex. This blend uses spices from the Malabar coast of India which provide a nice balance without being too spicy, and a touch of chocolate for mystery. Contains: a full-bodied Assam black tea base with white chocolate (dairy), ginger, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper and natural flavors. Be sure to turn your container of chai upside-down a few times as the powdered spices can settle at the bottom of a bag during transit, or over time on a shelf. Rooibos Chai

$ 7.00 USD

Rooibos Chai is rooibos flavored with ginger, cinnamon, and lemon grass. Caffeine-free. Use 1 tsp. per cup and steep 5-10 minutes in freshly boiled water.

Vanilla Chai Tea

$ 7.00 USD

Chai tea is such an integral part of Indian culture that it is virtually impossible to avoid when traveling through any part of the country. Whenever fresh cold drinking water cannot be found, you will inevitably encounter a "chai-wallah," or chai seller, yelling out "chayee! chayee!" While riding the rails in India, the call of the chai-wallah can be heard at every stop offering their delicious hot drink. It is not uncommon for a chai-wallah to board a train in the middle of the night and wake up passengers to sell chai. The chai comes in small clay cups that customers can just throw from the train windows when finished!

Indian chai tea is usually brewed in heavy milk and produces a wonderfully warm and soothing effect on the body. The soothing aspect is taken one step further in our Vanilla Chai tea with the addition of vanilla which adds a hint of creaminess to the blend. Contains: black tea, ginger, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper, calendula and sunflower petals, and natural vanilla flavor. Be sure to turn your container of chai upside-down a few times as the powdered spices can settle at the bottom of a bag during transit, or over time on a shelf. Use one teaspoon per cup and steep in freshly boiled water for 3-5 minutes.
