Chukar
The chukar partridge (Alectoris chukar), or simply chukar/Chakor, is a Palearctic upland gamebird in the pheasant family Phasianidae. It has been considered to form a superspecies complex along with the rock partridgePhilby's partridge and Przevalski's partridge and treated in the past as conspecific particularly with the first. This partridge has well marked black and white bars on the flanks and a black band running from the forehead across the eye and running down the head to form a necklace that encloses a white throat. Native to Asia, the species has been introduced into many other places and feral populations have established themselves in parts of North America and New Zealand. This bird can be found in parts of the Middle East and temperate Asia.

Chukars are chickenlike game birds with a plump body, short legs, and a small round head. In flight, the tail is square and the wings are broad and rounded. Chukars are sandy brown overall with bold, vertical black bars on the sides. A dark band through the eyes wraps around the white cheek and throat. A red bill and eyering tops off the look. Chukars are ground-dwelling birds that would rather walk or run than fly. They run up rocky slopes with ease and hop from rock to rock, easily outpacing a human. When frightened they explode into the air with a piercing squeal. Chukars occupy steep rocky grasslands and shrublands in remote and rugged areas that are difficult traverse. They also use dry pasture lands and sagebrush flats in the West.

The Chukar Eggs are sold out for this year. Chukar eggs should be set at 99.5° F and a wet bulb of 86° F. Eggs should be placed small end down and turned 90° three times a day. On the 21st day the eggs should be placed on their sides in the hatcher. The hatcher should be set at 99° F with a web bulb of 87° F. Around the 23rd day eggs should hatch. If eggs are to be held any length of time before they are set, they should be kept small end down, turned three times daily, and at a temperature between 60°-68° F. Always be sure hands are free of dirt and grease when handling eggs. Once hatched, chicks should be kept at 90° F for the first week and drop the temperature 5° per week. Feed a good starter 28-30% protein. Chukars are bad about piling, so eliminate all corners to solve this problem. Good luck!
