Caramel owes much of its legacy to the famous chocolatier, Milton Hershey. Before branching into chocolate, Milton brought a confection normally made by grandmothers to national attention. Chocolate Cream Black Tea

$ 7.00 USD

Chocolate's specific name, Theobroma cacao, literally means "food of the gods." And so it was for the ancient Maya who worshiped the cacao bean and regarded it as a priceless treasure. Hernando Cortez brought the beans back to Spain in the 1500s where chocolate was subsequently enjoyed as a hot drink by royalty and commoners alike. By the 1700s, chocolate houses were as prominent as coffee shops in many parts of the European continent and the U.K. In 1756, chocolate crossed back over to the new world with the opening of North America's first chocolate factory in the Massachusetts Bay Colony. We don't know when chocolate was first added to tea or who was responsible for doing it. One thing that we can be sure of, however, is the delightful beverage created when the natural chocolate flavors blend with premium Ceylon black tea. Chocolate Cream Tea includes coconut flakes, cocoa bits, chocolate chips, and natural flavors. Add milk and sugar for an even creamier treat! Use one teaspoon per cup and steep 3-5 minutes in freshly boiled water.

Use one teaspoon per cup and steep 3-5 minutes in freshly boiled water.

Earl Grey Tea is the most popular tea blend in the western world. Its distinctive flavor is derived from the addition of oil of bergamot, a highly aromatic oil made from the rind of the fruit of the Citrus bergamia, a citrus fruit typical of Southeast Asia and grown commercially in Italy. The tea is named after the second Earl Grey, who was the British Prime Minister in the early 1830s. He reputedly received tea flavored with bergamot oil as a diplomatic gift.

Besides being pulpy sweet and delicious, mangoes have long been associated in the Eastern world with peace, tranquility, and harmony. Legend has it that the Buddha himself would often seek repose in a grove of mango trees. In certain parts of India it was believed that mango trees were sacred, and a symbol of love. Some even believed that mango trees could grant wishes. Even to this day Hindus hang fresh leaves from mango trees outside their doors during Ponggol, the Hindu New Year, as a blessing for peace in the New Year.

Night of the Iguana Chocolate Chai Black Tea

Named after the last major box office success for Tennessee Williams, the distinguished American playwright - and a noted tea lover! The play features a captive iguana tied up to the edge of a veranda while a cast of characters discuss their complicated lives. This blend uses spices from the Malabar coast of India which provide a nice balance without being too spicy, and a touch of chocolate for mystery. Contains: a full-bodied Assam black tea base with white chocolate (dairy), ginger, cardamom, coriander, cinnamon, cloves, black pepper and natural flavors. Be sure to turn your container of chai upside-down a few times as the powdered spices can settle at the bottom of a bag during transit, or over time on a shelf. Russian Earl Grey Black Tea

$ 7.00 USD

Tea has been consumed in Russia for centuries. The drink was first introduced to the country during the Tsarist era in 1618. The Chinese ambassador to Moscow at the time presented Tsar Michael Fedorovich with several chests of tea as a gift. Although the Tsar accepted the gift with legendary Russian grace, the tea was not very well received at first. The Tsar and the people of his court were accustomed to drinking warm fruit and herbal beverages, therefore finding the new beverage slightly bitter. According to Russian folklore, it was one of Tsar Michael's chefs who came up with the idea of adding fruit and spice to the tea in order to enhance its flavor. Various blends were experimented with using combinations of ginger, salt, orange peel, rice, onions, and various herbs and spices. The most popular of these blends, however, were the more heavily sweetened versions based on citrus fruit. As years wore on, tea consumed in this fashion spread throughout Russia, and samovars, a unique and traditional Russian teapot, became ubiquitous throughout the continent. To this day, Russians are among the highest per capita tea drinkers in the world and enjoy the drink at all times of the day.

Our Russian Earl Grey was created in honor of Tsar Michael and in keeping with the Russian tradition, orange peel and lemongrass were added to the tart character of bergamot (the citrus fruit used to flavor all Earl Greys) creating an unquestionable citrus flavor! Enhanced with cornflower petals. Add a splash of milk to really bring out the citrus overtones of the blend - or add some sugar to sweeten it up Russian style! Use one teaspoon per cup and steep 3 minutes in freshly boiled water.

Baroness Grey Black Tea

$ 7.00 USD

Over the centuries, many women have held the title of Baroness Grey, but this tea was blended in honor of one woman in particular. British legend has it that this Baroness of Grey, who lived sometime in the 16th or 17th century, was married to a man who was a ship's captain in the Royal Navy. As the story goes, the ship never returned from a trading voyage to China. Refusing to believe that her husband would never return, the Baroness would walk to the port lands every morning to greet each ship in hope for news of her husband. Sadly, she continued this practice until the day she died.

In honor of the loyal Baroness, Baroness Grey Tea was blended with the traditional bergamot oil and the addition of rose and cornflower petals to represent the love she had for her husband, and orange peels and lime leaves to represent the bitter tears she shed over her beloved. The citrus peels included in this blend add a lovely tartness to the existing citrus flavor of the bergamot, making it a fantastic alternative to traditional Earl Grey. Use one teaspoon per cup and steep in freshly boiled water for 3-5 minutes.

Bourbon Sunday Blend Black Tea

$ 7.00 USD

It is said that vanilla calms the nerves, lifts the spirits, and improves the romantic aspect of one's life. Vanilla is an extraordinary flavor, full of mystery and elusiveness that is often taken for granted. Did you know that vanilla is the only edible fruit of the orchid family? It is also the world's most labor-intensive agricultural crop, taking up to three years after the vines are planted before the first flowers appear! Vanilla has a long history of robbery and intrigue as it is very expensive and highly prized, and in the growing countries it is not uncommon for vanilla rustling to occur.

Bourbon Sunday Blend is a black tea blend of tippy Assam teas combined with real Bourbon vanilla pieces, giving it a wonderfully sweet aroma. Enjoy with milk and sugar for a great dessert... and not only on Sunday! Use one teaspoon per cup and steep in freshly boiled water for 3-5 minutes.

Masala Chai Black Tea

$ 7.00 USD

Our Masala Chai Tea has a complex, traditional Masala flavor, is somewhat less peppery than the old version and is considerably less expensive. Black tea flavored with ginger root, cinnamon, green cardamom, ginger and vanilla flavor.

Chai is typically made using a rich black tea, usually an Assam, and is traditionally brewed in heavy milk with a mixture of spices. Each recipe can be different depending upon the spices used. Indian chai is often referred to as Masala Chai. The word "chai" literally means "tea." Different languages use various forms of this word - for example Portuguese call it "cha," Hindus call it "chai," and in Chinese the sound of the symbol for tea sounds very much like "cha." "Masala" is the word for the mixture of the various spices - hence Masala Chai.

Our Vanilla Chai is a zesty blend of lively Malabar Coast spices: sharp ginger, cinnamon, candy cardamom, ground pepper, cloves & nutmeg with a creamy vanilla finish. Indian chai tea is usually brewed in heavy milk and produces a wonderfully warm and soothing effect on the body.

Chai tea is such an integral part of Indian culture that it is virtually impossible to avoid when traveling through any part of the country. Whenever fresh cold drinking water cannot be found, you will inevitably encounter a "chai-wallah," or chai seller, yelling out "chayee! chayee!" While riding the rails in India, the call of the chai-wallah can be heard at every stop offering their delicious hot drink. It is not uncommon for a chai-wallah to board a train in the middle of the night and wake up passengers to sell chai. The chai comes in small clay cups that customers can just throw from the train windows when finished!

Be sure to turn your container of chai upside-down a few times as the powdered spices can settle at the bottom of a bag during transit, or over time on a shelf. Use one teaspoon per cup and steep in freshly boiled water for 3-5 minutes.
